Alumni News
LUBC Alumni member Graham Everitt, mens captain from 2002-2004, has developed a fund raising scheme that will help us achieve our targets this year and in the future. The scheme, Sport Benefits, is about to be taken to the rowing world on a national level but is being piloted with LUBC.

Grahams scheme helps club raise money for themselves by linking them to a financial services network. The network consists of mortgage brokers, insurance providers and small loan companies. If an LUBC member, past member or friend uses any of the services in this network, the club receives a donation. The scheme is also being used at Curlew Rowing Club in London and has so far generated almost £300 just with two members using one of the companies to source their mortgage. The companies are also obligated to offer a service that benefits the individual, not just the club, so they have negotiated discounted insurance with their insurance providers, and the mortgage business is a brokerage that searches the whole of the lending market to find the best deal for you.

All of the services are free, so the scheme really is designed to benefit everyone involved. LUBC is trying to raise the final bit of money needed to purchase the racking for next year, so if you, or your business need any kind of insurance or mortgage then please make Sport Benefits your first port of call to see if both you and the club can benefit.

You can see the website at www.sport-benefits.co.uk, or contact Graham directly on 01322 226 878 or 07727630199.

LUBC Fundraising Activities - NEW RACKING

Due to the recent growth of LUBC the club is facing an almost unheard of problem - we have simply run out of space in the boathouse! This is causing a number of boats to be sold or scrapped that could have otherwise been used to train novices and enabled more people to get involved (every year we turn many away).

Having approached a local tradesman we now have a plan to redesign the old and degrading racking system in the boathouse which will double our capacity. This entire operation will make an overwhelming difference to the club and give a firm base from which to grow even further.

The total required for this job is £2,500 and due to additional annual role of supporting members we are adamant that £5,000 is needed to enable potential to be reached this year.

How can I help?

We are involved in numerous fundraising activities: -

  1. A sponsored erg in Lancaster City Centre on the 30th September
  2. A second sponsored erg will also take place on campus during Winter Term (Term 1)
  3. We will be contacting all "Old Blades" shortly requesting a nominal regular donation to support the current developments
  4. We are working directly with the Lancaster University Alumni Office to raise awareness of our recent achievements and to highlight how much of a difference a nominal donation can make.

If you would like to help LUBC in our quest to providing genuine sporting opportunity to all University members then please do follow this link to the alumni donation site.

Please ensure you "check" the "Boat Club" box!

Lancaster University Friends Programme

LUBC has been very fortunate to receive substantial funding from the Lancaster University Friends Programme over the last two years. However, the University needs constant donations to fund the programme of support to both ourselves and other worthwhile causes throughout campus.

Please do have a look at this link about how to make donations. You may specify how your donation is to be used by contacting Rachel Newbury, Head of Annual Giving.
