Deciding what sport you choose to pursue at University can be tough decision. There is no golden choice that is guaranteed to give you the development, excitement and social life that we all yearn for. Here at LUBC we think we come closer than any other University club to achieving the right mix. With a fantastic social scene and a real opportunity to do something that is new and exciting the choice really becomes a lot easier.
All that remains is to just sit back and think: "What do I want to achieve?"

I want to...
Learn a new sport

Here at LUBC we welcome experienced rowers as well as those who have never seen an oar before. For those who have no experience in the sport we organise a novice training programme, which usually lasts about 8 weeks. This programme is designed to build on your fitness, strength and prepare you for water training. We use Wednesday afternoons, where there are no timetabled lectures or seminars in almost all degrees, to get novices on the water.

If you are here to clock up as many wins as possible and would really like to push yourself towards sporting success at the likes of Henley Royal Regatta then the LUBC senior squad is the right group for you. LUBC prides itself on our intense level of fitness training. The fact that we have achieved such a phenomenal level of growth over the last five years is something that sets us apart from other Athletic Union Clubs at Lancaster .

Be part of a team

Rowing is the ultimate team sport. No one member can pull the rest of the team through, no one athlete can win a race, it relies on the team working together to get the result. As a traditional rowing club, Lancaster focuses its efforts towards VIII's and as the year progress you will belong to a crew, the closer your bond, the better your performances will become.

At LUBC we understand the importance of the team and in order to ensure we develop and grow as a club there is a huge emphasis on the social side. Our Social Executives are tasked to ensure that when we do hit the pubs and clubs, alcohol flows, that we bump into other students and that their are plenty of stories for the next day!

Compete nationwide

Over the last 2 years we have created a racing calendar that can take us far a field and includes the Head of the River Race, London, as well as the BUSA championships and more recently Marlow Regatta and Henley Royal Regatta.

The majority of races take place in summer. This gives club members the chance to camp in the sunshine and travel the length and breadth of the country. Although a large part of races and in the North, those that make the senior squad can expect to race in London and Henley.

And enjoy the social life

As a club we aim to perform to the best of our ability and that means we want to win! However, we do understand the importance of socials and joining LUBC makes you a part of that. You will find members friendly, warm and helpful and we have executive committee that are committed to ensuring you have the best experience possible at University.

So what does this mean? It is quite simple…the harder we work the harder we party! With Parties, BBQ's and weekly socials where everyone gets involved you will have ample opportunity to enjoy the student life that we all love – you need look nowhere else!
